Creating an effective workplace for public service requires more than a standard approach—it demands a deep understanding of how each team operates. In partnership with the COSB Sheriff’s Department Homicide Division, G|M Business Interiors delivered a highly tailored environment designed to support a wide range of departmental needs while maintaining a cohesive overall aesthetic.

The foundation of the project was rooted in discovery. Each department was individually interviewed to better understand workflows, challenges, and day-to-day functions. This process revealed the need for multiple workspace “typicals,” resulting in a variety of customized solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all design.

The completed space includes 34 workstations, 13 private offices, four conference rooms, and a centrally designed breakroom—each thoughtfully planned to support both individual focus and team collaboration.

To enhance performance and well-being, the workplace integrates ergonomic solutions from Herman Miller, including Canvas and Ethospace systems, Headway height-adjustable tables, Verus and Cosm seating, and Elevate ergonomic tools. Together, these elements create a flexible, supportive environment designed for long-term use.

Balancing customization with consistency, finishes were carefully selected to align with the overall interior aesthetic, ensuring a unified look across diverse spaces.

The result is a workplace that reflects the unique needs of its users—proving that when design is guided by research and collaboration, it can elevate both function and experience.
